Optimise, Transform, Turnaround
“It doesn’t matter the stage of the business lifecycle, every business owner and great leader should be thinking about their exit. “
Thinking about your exit isn’t a doom and gloom scenario. Having a business that is transaction ready is the ideal state and remember, you don’t have to exercise any option unless you choose to. Also, having a transaction-ready business means you’re more in charge of your destiny and are creating options instead of waiting for that better tomorrow to come along, or for that wonderful or terrible event that forces you to react and make decisions about your business you may not have otherwise chosen.
Maybe you’ve fallen victim to the ‘modern business condundrum’ or don’t quite know what to do with this thing called disruption. Do you run towards it, away from it or just hope it will blow over?
‘The Modern Business Conundrum’: The unrelenting demand for businesses to remain disciplined, commercial, creative, embrace technology, operationally agile, strategic with technology and customer-centric – all whilst running their business day-to-day.
Transformation is another one of those words that has become popular in the business world in recent times. There are a range of factors that can be catalysts for change. For example, changes in the company’s income stream or funding, development of new products, new markets or increased market competition, the need or desire for a founder/CEO to exit the business without a successor, and changes to the regulatory or political environment.
Often transformation is referred to as a singular ‘thing’ but there are several ways to look at transformation. The first is through an operational lens, with the objective of finding ways to deliver outcomes better, cheaper and/or faster. The next approach is the operational model or ‘core transformation’, which involves introducing a fundamental change to the way you are doing what you are currently doing. The third, which is often the most popular because of its greater impact (whether positive or negative) revolves around strategy. Strategic transformation can redefine, reinvigorate and alter a company. In our view, the most effective approach is to incorporate all three types of transformation.
Irrespective of the type and scale of transformation needed, we apply a holistic and disciplined approach through to execution to ensure a successful transformation. Throughout all stages we pay close attention to:
Understanding the current state and most significant risks
Defining the transformation vision, strategy and future state
Acknowledging and communicating the magnitude of change
Change management strategy including a high touch approach around engagement
Project management structure and governance
Equipping leaders to steer people through change
Cultural change strategy and resilience programs
Leveraging technology and digitisation
Employee exit management including outplacement and recruitment requirements
All too often a business realises it is on the slippery slope when it is too late.
A business may appear to be unaffected for a short period, but inertia cannot last forever. Whilst there are many reasons that a business can become distressed it is generally not as simple as ‘bad management’. Instead, often the business is working under a set of beliefs that are no longer reflective of the market. Sometimes it is the case that management underestimated the seriousness of their situation, used the wrong data, believed they could get past a ‘tough patch’ if they kept pushing through, or were swept up by short-termism to the detriment of the long-term viability of the company. Often it is a combination of factors rather than just the one.
In this context, our turnaround program follows a holistic review process to identify all the signs of distress and the key levers in your business and market. We systematically examine and evaluate how your business is performing and where change is needed. Based on this analysis, we develop a recovery strategy supported by an implementation plan.
We can play a hands-on role throughout the entire implementation. In many cases, we commence working intensively and then gradually step back to a business coaching model as momentum builds internally. Sometimes we find that a business leader or staff member may need to exit the business as part of the recovery. When this is the case we can manage this process, including outplacement services. Through our specialist recruitment service in our NewBreedPeople division, we effectively and seamlessly manage the recruitment and onboarding of new business leaders to your business.
Why don’t businesses do everything in their power to set people up for success to optimimise their people ‘asset’ in the same way they would any technology or physical asset? Why don’t they stop and get back to the basics of disciplined planning, strategy and execution. The reality is that often leaders and managers are so caught up in the day-to-day running they don’t have the capacity to think about where they might not be realising their potential or what gaps are holding them back. For small to medium businesses, having the expertise to help with this in-house is simply not an affordable option.
Our NewBreedBusinessPerformance services provide you with the ability to tap into targeted solutions at a business, team and even individual level to close those gaps and ensure you realise the benefits you should be. After gaining an understanding of your current state, business goals and environment, we will identify the ideal solutions for you. We will then be with you as much or as little as you need through implementation and beyond.
Although digitisation and technology drive a lot of opportunities, people undoubtedly remain an organisation’s most important and powerful asset. Getting the basics consistently right across people, processes and systems as well as the right, holistic strategy will put your business on the right track to being at its best, day after day.

Business Coaching (one-on-one)
It doesn’t matter what stage of the lifecycle your business is at, ultimately every business owner should be thinking about their exit. Whilst this might sound a bit extreme (particularly if you’re just starting) when you think about it, it does make a whole lot of sense. Unless you can create a saleable asset that can operate profitably and independently, even though you may have the benefit of owning a job you also have a whole lot of overheads and potentially, headaches. In our business coaching program, you will be provided with one-on-one coaching by a highly qualified expert who will provide you with the guidance, insights and assistance to achieve your goals, optimise your business, and create a saleable asset. They will work with you from planning through to execution and monitoring to make sure you achieve sustainable change and improvement.
We offer group and individual training and development programs to help build and embed deeper capability in areas such as sales and commercialisation.
Leadership Development Programs and Coaching
Group programs are a good solution when there is a common need or the training is aligned with a capability initiative. One-on-one coaching is ideal when you need high impact, clear accountability for results and individualised support. Coaching creates a safe and objective avenue to gain clarity, explore self and others’ perception, and to develop and implement strategies to enhance awareness, enable and empower self-management and perspective – and ultimately, increase effectiveness, impact and resilience.
Team Effectiveness and Dynamics
There’s a saying that “Team Work Makes a Dream Work”. Even if it is a bit cliched, it is essentially true. In the majority of workplaces, one person is too small a number for greatness. Instead, outcomes are typically reliant on a team (or many teams) of people. Whilst we often hear that the value of diversity in the workplace is a good thing, we hear a lot less about how we should harness it to achieve greatness. This is where we can help.
Whether it is a newly forming team, a storming or non-performing team, we are experienced in facilitating programs to improve understanding of self and others through a simple framework, common language and action planning. Through practical activities and the development of a team optimisation plan, we help teams to improve productivity and performance, and take measurable steps to maximise trust, cohesion, alignment, productivity and fun.
Facilitation of Group Strategy Sessions
Our experienced and energetic facilitators can design and run strategy and/or team building sessions. By allowing us to take care of designing and facilitating the session, you can focus your efforts on being an engaged participant. We are particularly skilled in facilitating work involving purpose, vision, mission, organisational design and strategy design.
